Current events

Centraide Campaign

L3 MAPPS recognizes the importance of supporting our community and people in need. We take part in an annual United Way campaign that allows individuals to donate through payroll deductions. The L3 MAPPS United Way committee also organizes several fundraising activities throughout the year, generating significant contributions from everyone at L3 MAPPS.

Centraide is a charitable organization dedicated to helping communities in the Greater Montréal Area. To find out more about Centraide of Greater Montréal, click on the following link: www.centraide-mtl.org/.

Recent events

In the latest community involvement project, L3 MAPPS employees are organizing various events to raise funds for Leucan, an association for children with cancer.

Leucan is an association whose mission is to help cancer-stricken children and their families believe in a brighter future. Leucan looks after its families at each phase of the illness by providing specific and adapted services. Leucan is present in all walks of family life whether it be at the hospital, at home, at school, in social life or in the public eye, by means of financial assistance, welcome, emotional assistance and support services, information, hosting and support in playrooms, massage therapy at the hospital and in the region, socio-recreational activities, support groups, school life and end-of-life and bereavement follow-up services.

Leucan is active in the four pediatric oncology centers in Quebec: Sainte-Justine UHC, Montreal Children's Hospital of the McGill University Health Centre, Centre mére-enfant du CHUQ and CHUS. It invests nearly one million dollars annually in costs associated with clinical research, and finances the Leucan Information Centre located in the Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau at Sainte-Justine UHC, which provides services for the whole province of Quebec.

Children's Wish

Children's Wish Foundation

Throughout the summer of 2010, L3 MAPPS employees organized several fundraising activities to benefit the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada (www.childrenswish.ca).

Granting wishes to children with high-risk life-threatening illnesses is the primary line of business and the most powerful way in which The Children's Wish Foundation fulfils its mandate. Staff and volunteers work tirelessly to maintain the highest quality of service to wish families with attention to the most minute details so as to ensure the total satisfaction of each and every wish child. Over the past 25+ years, the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada has granted more than 16,000 wishes.

Dragon Boat Race

The Cedars Cancer Institute Dragon Boat Race and Festival

On September 12, 2009 a group of L3 MAPPS employees, the "L-3 Krazy Komodos", took part in the empowering and exhilarating experience of paddling in dragon boats in the "Cedars Cancer Institute Dragon Boat Race and Festival."

Thanks to generous contributions through fundraising activities, the L-3 Krazy Komodos dragon boat team donated a grand total of $10,802.00 to the Cedars Cancer Institute. The funds raised will benefit the Cedars CanSupport Program for psychosocial, practical and humanitarian support for cancer patients and their families. Over the years, CanSupport has developed and improved their services to better accommodate the needs of today's patients. The donations received will ensure that the staff and dedicated volunteers at Cedars have all the tools they need to offer compassionate care and understanding to enrich the lives of cancer patients during their treatment process.

Regular events

Sun Youth

Every holiday season, L3 MAPPS supports Sun Youth by collecting non-perishable food items and toys for the less fortunate.

Sun Youth distributes Christmas Baskets to approximately 10,000 families and gives toys to 13,000 deserving children. Their Christmas baskets are prepared in advance at their warehouse on de Gaspé Street, and filled with non-perishable food donations received from members of the public and from corporations. The baskets are then shipped to their headquarters on a daily basis in mid-December.

The quantity of food a family receives depends on the size of the family. People who want to register for a basket need to bring proof of income and proof of address, as well as the Medicare cards of all people living in the household. After registration is complete, clients receive an appointment card telling them when to pick up their basket. Identification cards are also required on distribution day. Families and individuals are entitled to only one basket per household.

Every year, a central index is prepared for all organizations that distribute holiday baskets to make sure families do not receive food from multiple organizations.
