Manager, Marine Systems Engineering

Permanent Full-Time Position

The Marine Systems Manager will be responsible for all resources within marine systems engineering and delivering compliant marine systems solutions, participating in all phases of engineering including: requirements analysis, architectural design, preliminary and detailed design tasks, system integration, procurement planning, engineering and project risk management, and engineering close-out activities.


  • Provide expertise and oversight in all areas of Marine Systems Engineering in support of programs by reviewing proposal specifications, work scopes, establishing budgets and schedules, and ensuring that contract requirements are met;
  • Manage and supervise technical teams responsible for equipment selection, system architecture, environmental qualification/compliance, ILS, etc. and ensuring timely completion of work activities;
  • Resource planning to meet business requirements;
  • Provide mentoring and technical guidance especially to new staff, including succession planning;
  • Responsible for drawings of various electrical and mechanical systems, including block diagrams, schematics, assemblies, etc.
  • Manage designers and draftsman using 3D CAD tools and ensure drawings are produced in accordance with applicable drafting codes and standards;
  • Work with manufacturing partners to introduce designs into production and solve related manufacturing issues;
  • Report writing and documentation;
  • Assist Marketing and Sales Teams on proposals.


  • Educational background and training in Electrical, Mechanical or Marine Engineering;
  • More than 10 years of experience in managing relevant marine systems engineering operations or technical, electrical design teams;
  • Experience in the management of Ship design margins for electrical, HVAC and weight and stability will be an asset;
  • Comprehensive understanding of mechanical and electrical design standards for naval platforms and the ability to specify analytical methods and tools;
  • Comprehensive understanding of shock and vibration standards for naval platforms and the ability to specify analytical methods and tools;
  • Experience in ship construction, design and maintenance will be an asset;
  • High level oral and written communication skills required and
  • Excellent organization skills.

Applicants must be able to obtain a Canadian NATO Secret clearance and meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the Canadian Controlled Goods Registration Program and ITAR.
